Hi All,
I just got an update from Bill so we wanted to pass it along. Dad had a reasonably good day and was able to get some sleep finally. His vitals are basically stable and his blood pressure is back up so whatever was happening yesterday seems to have passed. His heart did go back in to A-fib (arterial fibrillation) again so they need to treat that, but that seems to happen every so often and then correct itself.
Tomorrow he is scheduled to have a tracheotomy around noon. This will be a procedure to cut a hole in his trachea to breathe through in the hopes that they can then remove him from the ventilator. Being on the ventilator is very rough business, it cuts his mouth, lips, throat, vocal cords, etc so they want to get him off as soon as possible. Bill said the trach will most likely take place in his room in the ICU so it won't be a full blown surgery.
He is still on dialysis, as this weeks events seemed to set him back some, but he is again producing adequate amounts of urine so hopefully they will be able to remove him soon. The dialysis machine is loud and temperamental, it beeps all the time and requires the nurses replace both the fluid input and output bags on the hour, not to mention the hourly self tests it does. I think if he can get that removed it would help him rest even more, simply for the amount of peace and quiet that being rid of that one machine would provide. We'll keep our fingers crossed that happens soon.
Thanks,
Haverly

Haverly,Frasier, Linda and Bill,
I wish there were some way to help other than sending notes on the blog. Hopefully those times when Dean shows sign of being himself, your energy levels rise. This has been quite an ordeal for Dean and your family. Once he gets healthier and returns home,it might "take a village" to get him to even visit a hospital again.
As always, I'm sending all of you many positive thoughts and you are all in my prayers.
Lois Frank
You are all in my continued thoughts and prayers... Thank you so much for the updates.
