Today, Dean's physical therapy included standing up! We have waited so long for this to happen. The ventilator has been removed from his room and he no longer has a dialysis catheter. The tubes and machines are coming off one-by-one and sometimes two a day.
I talked with his doctor today and Dean is now in the rehab phase of his transplant process. He needs to gain strength, muscle tone, and some weight! This is going to be the slow part...daily improvements that may not be as visible as removing a machine. The doctor also said his delusions and confusion will now be eposodic. He'll be clear and lucid one time we see him and then confused the next. This is a normal process. That information was so reassuring.
We know you are thinking of him constantly and keeping him in your prayers. Thank you. Linda

Three years ago my then 13 year old son was in the hospital flat on his back for more than 3 weeks. I was amazed at how long it took him to get his muscle tone back and be ready to go again. It does happen but it will take a long time. Patience, faith and the love of those around you will make it happen. Keep standing!

Happy, happy day!!! Way to go, Dean. We knew they couldn't keep you down much longer. We think of you many, many times a day. We have so much to talk about that we know we'll be good for some entertainment when you are ready. Wait until you hear the acupuncture story! Bill, we are good helpers/cleaners/shleppers and pack a "mean" box. Please don't hesitate to ask for help. Our love to all-Linda, Haverly, Frazier, Bill and Dean.
