Family Update

Thank you for all the wonderful cards and well-wishes that have come our way. So many have asked if we are taking care of ourselves so I want to do a quick update. Bill is busy overseeing the details of the Dean memorial kitchen he is installing in the new condo. It is the fourth professional kitchen he has done for Dean and it is beautiful! Haverly returned to work and school to finish the spring semester. She'll return to summer school the Tuesday after Dean's memorial party. Frazier and Cassi are at work again and helping Wyatt and Owen deal with the realization that they won't see their Grandpa Dean again. I'm back at work and teaching my university courses. Today, my quilting friends are whisking me off to quilt camp - three days of sewing, Jane Austen movies, and plenty of napping.

If you are able to attend the Celebration of Life, we are so excited to see old and new friends. If you are not able to attend, I am going to use my new technology skills to post on the blog small video vignettes. That way you can be there too . Linda

We wish so very much that we could be there with all of you. Aaron's school schedule will not allow him to have any time off right now, but we will be there in spirit. You're all in our thoughts.

Dear Linda, et al,

I just saw the obit in the Daily Camera. We have all lost a wonderful soul. I have read most of the blog - thank you for writing it. In some ways it helps to know what happened. I'm so sorry. As everyone has said, Dean was a remarkable, inspiring, and wonderful man. I wish that I had spent more time with him. His kindness to me has stayed with me all these years.

Blessings to all of you and everyone that has been touched by his life.

Dear Linda and all,
I too was shocked to open the Daily Camera this morning. I have spent the last 2 hours reading the blogs since Dec.. You have ALL been so wonderful in keeping everyone updated. I look forward to Dean's Party and by the way, every time I hear a spanish word come out of one of my children's mouths I will think of him and Washington Bilingual. Just ONE of the small gifts he bestowed.

Dear Linda and Family, Bill, I was so shocked and saddened by the news of Dean's passing. I read the entire blog record of the tremendously difficult road that you traveled together and am so sorry for the pain that it held for all of you. The glimpses of Dean that you gave as he faced overwhelming challenges underlined and reinforced the gentle. caring, sharing, large hearted man who impacted so many, so well. As Boulder Valley attempts to conclude its negotiations time, I recall the challenge and delight of working with Dean to reach just and equitable conclusions to issues, great and trivial. There was never a problem that was larger than his expansive creativity could embrace. He is and will continue to be missed. Pattie and I send our love to you in these days of grief and relief. You remain in our thoghts and prayers. Willie and Pattie Knierim

This seems so belated, yet I feel compelled to add my thoughts, tardy as they are. Having been away for a month, I returned and began to catch up on my non-essential mails, etc. to find the sad, albeit not totally unexpected news.

Dean was my 'big brother' in our fraternity at University of Houston. We visited each other's homes in our younger days. I visited Dean during his brief stint in the seminary. My wife and I took time off from medical school to attend his wedding in San Antonio.

We reconnected after discovering our homes were not that far apart (Crested Butte and Denver). We discovered we shared a few mutual friends in Colorado, and my kids had the pleasure of meeting Dean when he threw a party for Haverly in NYC where they lived.

As our paths continued to criss-cross, my hope was that we would ultimately develop an even more close relationship, including Bill as well as my family. Dean's failing health prohibited this in spite of our continued emails.

Ultimately this blog has served as my last connection with my old friend. Thanks to all of you who took the time and effort to keep the rest of us abreast of the battle this dear man endured.

Regards,
